Angkor Wat - the pearl of Cambodia

Siem Reap is a small but one of the most visited tourist cities in Asia

The Angkor Temple Complex is located in the city of Siem Reap in Cambodia. The archaeological site of Angkor, a UNESCO heritage site, includes several temples with ruins that have survived from the time of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. The complex of buildings reflects the sky on Earth and includes many temples, the main ones are Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta-Prom (1186), Banteay-Kidei (which is considered the earliest of the temples), Neak-Pean, Ta -Som, Sra-Srang, Pra-Khan (1191), Bayon temple, completed in 1219.

The city-temple is a square island surrounded by a moat with water (200 m wide), and the moat is not just dug in the ground, but is paved with stone blocks. The inner space has a concentric structure, combined with the concept of the temple-mountains - each space as it moves to the center above the previous (outer) one. The towers symbolize the lotus buds, the central tower is the highest (65 m from the ground level). The galleries of the temple contain many valuable bas-reliefs on historical themes.

All roads and architectural elements in the Angkor Wat complex lead to the central prasat of the temple, and that towers over everything and is home to Vishnu. The temple is built with visual perception. And when you inspect it correctly, you understand the idea of the architects.

The walls of Angkor Wat are decorated with scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, artfully carved in stone. The walls of the temple also adorn the figures of the heavenly Apsara dancers, who invariably attract the attention of tourists. Apsaras look out from every wall. Some of them are more popular than others - this is noticeable by the diligence with which travelers stroke the stone maidens, trying to enlist their support and catch good luck.

To visit the archaeological complex of Angkor, tourists need to fly to Cambodia, to Siem Reap, this is where Angkor Wat and other ancient temples are located

The structure and appearance of the temple should symbolize the mythological sacred mountain Meru, repeating its outlines, respectively, the temple towers are its top, the walls are rocks, and the moat is the ocean surrounding the center of the Universe. There are a huge number of tourists in the temple complex.

But the temple is also huge, so visitors, more or less evenly distributed in space, do not create the effect of the crowd. It is not very pleasant to see the Angkor temple complex in the hot or rainy season. The hottest month in Cambodia is April, the rainy season begins in mid-May and lasts until November.

Sunrises in Angkor, all tourists meet near the lake in the temple of Angkor Wat. A lot of people are going, the sooner you come, the more chances you have to take better places. Sunrises in Angkor is a gorgeous sight. The temple complex of Angkor is huge, do not think that you will be able to see all the temples in a few days. Yes, it is not necessary, by the end of the second day all the temples seen in the head of tourists usually merge into one large stone.

Cambodia, without exaggeration, is one of the most amazing countries in Southeast Asia. Its uniqueness is that it is the farthest country culturally from European civilization. In Cambodia, it is still easy to meet people who have never seen TV, much less drank coca-cola. Perhaps one of the states where the concept of "career" is completely absent, and people are very kind and friendly.
