Chesler Park, Canyonlands

There are mountains, plains, and high plateaus in which giant canyons cut through the rivers. The country of canyons, or Canyonlands National Park, surprisingly represents this part of America. The territory of the Canyonlands became a national park in 1964, and before that it was almost untrodden, and it was almost impossible to go there. Today, the park is still full of wild areas, and only along the paved roads are changes visible. The only way to fully inspect the park is a multi-day hike or a ride on an all-wheel drive car, although in most parts of the park there are no roads at all - neither roads nor footpaths. This is why there are far fewer tourists visiting Canyonlands Park than it could have been.

Canyonlands Park is part of a region called the Great Plateau of Colorado - an area elevated relative to its surroundings. The Colorado Plateau is well-known for its reddish color, and its surface is fairly even, in some places rocks that formed during the Paleozoic times several hundred million years ago. The plateau is surrounded from the west by a growing area of the Pacific Basin and the continental rift of the Rio Grande in the east. It occupies most of the state of Utah and Arizona, and also extends through the territory of the states of Colorado and New Mexico.

And now the height of the Colorado Plateau averages about 1,700 meters above sea level, which indicates a significant rise of the plateau upwards, which began about 20 million years ago and continues to this day. This process is accompanied by the formation of cracks, faults, dips and voids, as opposed to lifting rocks from the bowels of the Earth under the influence of internal geological processes.

The first people who lived in the territory of Canyonlands were hunter-gatherers who wandered through this territory from 2000 to 10,000 years ago in search of edible plants and game, leaving behind the remnants of material culture - darts and pictograms. On some rocks, pictures were discovered that were created more than 3000 years ago by groups of wandering hunters who moved along the southwest of the mainland.

Going on a trip through the Canyonlands National Park, learn in advance what exactly you would like to see there and how you are going to do it. There are no shops, restaurants, cafes or eateries in the park. There are no gas stations in the park. Mobile communication in the park is almost absent. All vehicles, including bicycles, must not leave the road within the park. Traffic outside the roads in the Canyonlands Park is prohibited.
