Luxor is a city in the south of Egypt, one of the most interesting for fans of Egyptian culture. This is one of the ancient capitals of Egypt, which was called Thebes. The city was divided by the Nile into the eastern and western parts, the eastern in antiquity was considered the city of the living, in which ordinary people lived, and the western - the city of the dead, and there is also the Valley of the Kings, and buried the dead pharaohs in it.

In the "City of the Dead" is the famous "Valley of the Pharaohs", the place of their burial (about 40 tombs in total). It was here that the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered. The tombs are carved into the rocks, because they tried to hide as close as possible from prying eyes. The entrances to the tombs were covered with large stones, walled up, although this did not save the tombs from ruin.

All of them are built according to a similar plan: a sloping corridor up to 200 m long, steeply going down to a depth of 100 m and ending in three or four rooms. The walls and ceilings of the corridors and rooms are still covered with bright color drawings telling about the life and exploits of the deceased. A few other famous landmarks of Luxor are the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the funeral temple in honor of the god Amon-Ra. Now only two statues of Amenhotep are left from the temple, which they call Memnon. These are two giant statues of 20 meters in height, with only one foot 2 meters long and 1 meter thick.
