Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe - vacation travel photos
The lake is located at an altitude of almost two thousand meters
Emerald Bay. The name itself sounds enticing and promising
What do you draw your imagination? Green, the colors of young grass, quiet lake surface, sandy beach, green forests and crystal clear blue sky. In reality, the color of the gulf is very much dependent on the time of day and lighting, and then the reality may be different. No worse, just looking at the lake water, iridescent with all shades of blue from delicate blue to deep ultramarine, the tourist does not leave the thought that the name Sapphire Bay would suit this place much more.
Right in the middle of the lake is the border of two states - California and Nevada. On all sides, the lake is surrounded by mountain slopes and in winter, ski life is raging here. In the area of the lake there are a number of alpine ski resorts and recreation areas with gorgeous views of the snow-covered slopes. The lake is the second deepest lake in the United States and the eleventh deepest in the world. The shimmering lake surface in the sun, barely visible through coniferous trees - sometimes their branches intertwine so thickly that the lake completely disappears from sight. And a bright blue sky, a color that children usually paint.
Emerald Bay is the most photographed place on Lake Tahoe. Three miles long and one mile wide, the bay was originally called Eagle Bay, thanks to bald eagles, soaring up above the emerald-blue water surface. Further, thanks to the delightful color of the water, the bay received the current name. 10 thousand years ago, huge glaciers formed a relief around the Emerald Cove. When they came down from the surface of the mountains, boulders, rocks and soil accumulated in front and sides of the glacier. All this remained after the disappearance of glaciers and formed moraines.
Lake Tahoe. Rest on the shores of the Emerald Bay
The road from the town of South Lake Tahoe to Emerald Bay takes only 20-30 minutes. Cruises on the lake on small boats is quite popular entertainment. A cruise on the lake takes two hours. On the way, the guide tells tourists about the lake, history, climate, etc. The island in the center is called Fannette Island. At one time he changed quite a few names, and many of them were more than exotic: Coquette, Baranoff, Dead Man's Island, Hermit's Island, and Emerald Isle. Fannette Island is the only island in the whole lake.
After a scenic excursion on the water, it is worth going upstairs to the viewing platforms, where you can see the panoramas on Lake Tahoe, the bay, the island and the mountains surrounding the lake. If you take a good look at the island, you can see a strange-looking turret - this is all that remains of the "Tea House", built in 1929. It was built on the mainland, and then transported by boat to the island.
Emerald Bay is an amazing place, truly a jewel and one of the highlights of Lake Tahoe. If you happen to be in those parts, then spend a few hours there; I assure you, you will not regret. It doesn't matter what time of year or day you arrive at the park. On the lake you can spend a few days. There is something to do here.
On Lake Tahoe you can find several beaches. The water in the lake is quite cold, so swimming is possible, but not quite comfortable. Nevertheless, the beach is full of people and quite a lot of swimmers. In addition, the coast is a great place for recreation and a picnic, and for lovers of active rest there is an opportunity to rent a boat or scooter and go ahead to the open spaces of the lake.
