On the night before the sacrifice, the couple ran in a wooden boat on the Iguazu River, but they did not know that Mboi was watching them. From the wrath of God formed a giant abyss. Thus, the death of Nipi and Toroba and led to the formation of Iguazu waterfalls.

The Iguazu Valley is part of a huge plateau formed by basalt lava during the Mesozoic era more than 135 million years ago. Iguazu River begins in the mountains of Brazil Serra do Mar at an altitude of 1300m near the Atlantic coast and is formed as a result of the confluence of the Atuba and Irai rivers, flowing more than 1320km to the west, falling into the Parana River. Above the waterfall complex, the Iguazu River is spread 1200 meters wide, and narrows below the waterfalls to 65m.
