The first museum in the Forbidden City appeared in 1914 - in the Hall of Military Glory

In the Forbidden City, entry to mere mortals was restricted

According to legend, there are 9999.5 rooms in the Forbidden City. It is said that the emperor wished to have 10,000 rooms. However, an angry Jade ruler appeared to him and declared that he had only ten thousand rooms in the sky in the palace, so it is not fitting for an Earthly emperor, even the Son of Heaven, to have as many rooms. Therefore, they made a little less - 9999 and another half of the room. In reality, the rooms - 8707. The Purple Forbidden City served as the residence of twenty-four powerful rulers of the two dynasties of the Celestial Empire - Ming and Qing.

In 1853, the seventeen-year-old Cixi girl was brought to the palace as a concubine. Over time, she became the most influential woman in Chinese history, and many believe that she led to the destruction of not only the Qing dynasty, but also of imperial China as a whole. Cixi violated the traditions and became a widow empress. She ruled the country until her two-year-old nephew, Pu-Yi, became the successor. Pu-Yi was the last owner of the Forbidden City in Beijing. In 1912, at the age of five, he abdicated the throne, but he was allowed to remain in the palace. On October 10, 1925, a museum was created here, which was named Gongun Boyuan - the Museum "Former Imperial Palace". According to the inventory held in the same year, it contained about 1.17 million units of storage. In subsequent years, the collection of Gugun expanded significantly.

Many of the achievements of mankind are rooted in Chinese civilization. China became the birthplace of gunpowder and paper. It is from here that the Great Silk Road originates, which was a kind of connecting bridge of the East with the West. Starting from Xi'an, the former capital of ancient China, it ended at the Mediterranean coast. According to it, paper, silk, gunpowder, precious stones, oriental spices were brought from China to Europe. The Great Silk Road played a huge role in the development of the culture of China, because according to it Buddhism, one of the main religions of Chinese civilization, came to the Middle Kingdom.

A country of contrasts, rich history and tremendous tourist opportunities - China every year becomes more and more popular with tourists from all over the world. Forbidden City - vacation travel photos

Over a million workers and about 100 thousand different craftsmen took part in the construction of the Forbidden City

Foreigners were practically not allowed here. Therefore, naturally, the most fantastic legends were composed of what is located behind the high walls of the palace. The "official", "external" part of the Forbidden City is followed by the "internal" where the members of the imperial family, concubines, and eunuchs lived. It has its own "streets" and "courtyards", surrounded by high walls.

Now in numerous rooms there are various expositions on the history and culture of China. All the decoration and design of the Forbidden City is permeated with the philosophical and religious ideas and principles of China, which say that the emperor, despite all his greatness, must be fair and wise. For recreation and cultural entertainment of the emperor was built Yuhuan Garden.

In one courtyard preserved building in the European style - "Hall of Water". It began to build in 1909, but did not have time to complete - the Xinhai Revolution broke out (1911-1912). If in the XVIII century in Europe the "Chinese style" was in fashion, in China, on the contrary, the "exotic" was the European style.

China is the oldest civilization in the world. China along with India, Egypt and Messopotamia (modern Iran and Iraq) is the oldest civilization in the world, whose age exceeds 5 thousand years. The culture of China is distinguished by the wealth of its material and spiritual values, which have not changed for thousands of years. Despite the influence from the outside and conquest, the culture of China has retained its uniqueness and originality.
