Kizhi island church. Travel to Russia

The length of the island is about 5.5 km, the widest place reaches 1.4 km. Currently, Kizhi Island is world famous, it is a museum of wooden architecture in the open. Here is the State Historical-Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve "Kizhi". The museum is based on the buildings of the ancient Kizhi churchyard - the Church of the Transfiguration, the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, the Bell Tower standing between them and the churchyard fence. Light, picturesque silhouettes of the buildings fit organically into the harsh northern landscape and make up a harmonious, uniquely beautiful ensemble. In 1990, by decision of UNESCO, the architectural complex of the Kizhi Pogost was included in the List of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

The Church of the Resurrection of Lazarus is the oldest surviving wooden Orthodox church in the Russian North. According to the legend, the church was set up by the Rev. Lazarus (late 14th century), the founder of the Murom monastery. In the museum's exposition, it occupies a special place, allowing you to trace the path of formation of the craftsmanship of the architects from the simplest log building to the many-headed composition of the Kizhi pogost. The church consists of two log cabins (an altar and a catholicon) and a wooden porch. The miniature dimensions of the rooms determined the modest church interior. Different in terms of performance and time of writing icons from the same church reflect the history of the phased formation of the interior decoration of the first northern temples.

Architectural monuments of Kizhi island. Icons from this church, dating from the 15th century - the first half of the 16th century, being ancient elements of the interior complex, make it possible to reconstruct its interior, which is very archaic in its structure, in combination with historical sources. The first information about the decoration of the church is in the Writing Book of Nikita Panin 1628-1629.

The church describes a two-row iconostasis: "the image of the local Lazarus Sunday on the paint; the image of the Most Beautiful Virgin Hodegetria on the paint; Deesis and the doors of the king and the canopy and the columns on the paint." The earliest 6 icons from the deuce rite of the Resurrection of Lazarus church - Apostle Paul, Apostle Peter, Archangel Gabriel, Archangel Michael, Martyr Laurus, Martyr Flor - date back to the first half of the 16th century Saints and archangels are depicted full-length, in a pose of predestination, and are turned towards the non-preserved center of the row.

Based on the size of the eastern wall and the inventory data of 1872, the central icon of the rank can probably be designated as "Deesis". Apparently, on one board was an image of the Savior ("the Savior on the throne") and the Mother of God and John the Forerunner to come. Saints are depicted on a golden-ocher background in calm static poses standing on a two-color manure. In the monotony of the symmetrical upcoming of saints and archangels, the Almighty is somewhat distinguished by the figure of the martyr Laurus, which is distinguished by its feet. In his more lively pose a slight movement is planned.

Kizhi. The places here are amazingly beautiful, a labyrinth of hundreds of picturesque islands and bays harmoniously gossiping into a unique natural landscape. Rocks with pines growing on them, bizarre lines of shores in their tortuosity, playing with flowers of the most diverse vegetation of the meadows - all this makes Kizhi a really beautiful and unique place.
