Mexico coral reef adventure. Diving in the Gulf of Mexico

Mexico is the place where the heart of the tourist remains forever

Whether you dive with whale sharks in Isla Mujeres, get to know the Sea of Cortez or admire the white sharks in Guadeloupe, Mexico gives you plenty of opportunities for diving

Divers of any level, from beginners to technical divers, will find great places in Mexico for themselves. Yucatan and the eastern part of Baja California are usually protected from strong currents, offering good diving spots for beginners. However, diving on islands further offshore, such as Guadeloupe and Socorro, is only suitable for advanced divers due to their fast currents.

Two coasts of Mexico are waiting for you, offering vast spaces for underwater exploration. You can discover the vast forests of algae in the lagoons of the Pacific Ocean, the secluded reefs of the coast of the Sea of Cortez and the Yucatan Peninsula, and sunken ships in the Caribbean. Lovers of pelagic animals will also be pleased, finding themselves in the breeding sites of various large animals living in the waters of Mexico, and on sites with strong currents.

In Mexico, you will find everything: colorful reef fish in the Caribbean and large pelagic animals in the Pacific, including the notorious great white shark. Here, near the Yucatan Peninsula, peaceful whale sharks migrate to Isla Mujeres and fast bull sharks. Blind cave fishes live in the eerie, wriggling senotes. In the Sea of Cortez, you will find other interesting creatures such as sea horses and starfishes. Here you will surely meet the playful sea lions in the area. We showed you only the tip of the iceberg, which is Mexico. There are so many things to see and explore.

Diving is a delight. Beauty, mystery and danger near, side by side. Diving is a different world, fantastic, but not fantastic. In it the impossible becomes possible, and the weight turns into ease, and the restriction turns into freedom. Diving is a flight. This is a time for reflection. This is an opportunity to leave, to leave there all experiences on the surface, all the vanity of vanities. In the embrace of the water element, everything that surrounds and excites us when we are a man becomes insignificant. Surrendering to the depths, you stop being just a man and become a diver.

In Mexico, there is something interesting for every diver

Advanced divers go to the Pacific Ocean to Guadeloupe. Beginners will feel more comfortable in the Gulf of Mexico. From hammerhead sharks off the coast of Cape to whale sharks, mantas and humpback whales in the Sea of Cortez - Lower Southern California always attracts lovers of pelagic animals. The Gulf of California is a mass of large pelagic animals, from Socantro's mantas and the great white sharks of Guadeloupe to the sea lions of the Sea of Cortez.

Mexico has hundreds of dive sites across the country. Your diving skills and the desire to see specific representatives of marine life will determine your destination. Advanced divers who love pelagic dwellers will want to go to Socorro Island or Guadeloupe aboard a ship. Socorro is known for its mantaine encounters, and Guadeloupe is one of the best places in the world for diving with great white sharks.

Also on the Pacific side in the Sea of Cortez are the sites around the islands of Los Islotes, a favorite place of playful sea lions. Those who are immersed in the cenotes should visit Cenote Dos Ojos, and beginners will be satisfied with almost any diving in the Caribbean, including the MUSA museum and Punta Cancun. In the Caribbean you can dive all year round.

If Socorro is your destination, book a tour from November to May. If Guadeloupe is on your list, it's best to go there from August to October. The summer months in Mexico are low season. At this time you will find the best offers for diving and accommodation. If you want to enjoy the uncrowded Caribbean dive sites, head to Mexico from May to September.

A huge number of different fish live on our planet. This is quite difficult to believe, but by the beginning of 2019, scientists already knew more than 35,122 varieties, and with each month their number is constantly growing. It is noteworthy that each species has many subspecies, and at the moment fish that are called cichlids living in the waters of various parts of America, Asia and Africa are considered to be record holders for variety. Today, scientists know that this family has more than 2,000 species that are very different from each other in size, shape, color and lifestyle.

The oceans are an extremely important element that ensures the maintenance of life on our planet. And changes in the "aquatic environment" will necessarily come back not only to the inhabitants of the seas and oceans, but also to those who live on land. According to scientists, the entire global ocean has lost about 2 percent of oxygen over the past half century. And this causes great concern in the scientific community, because if this trend continues, the consequences will be catastrophic. To a large extent, agriculture is responsible for lowering oxygen levels. The fact is that the flow of fertilizers and other components that people use to cultivate fields sooner or later falls into groundwater, then into rivers and later into the oceans. There, these substances not only negatively affect the local flora and fauna, but also bind some of the active forms of oxygen, further reducing its concentration in the aquatic environment
