Omsk is located in the very south-west of Siberia, only 100 kilometers from the border with Kazakhstan, so nature here is not quite Siberian - steppes, forest-steppe, meadows, and only here and there - coppices. Omsk is located on the banks of the Irtysh at the confluence of the River Om. The length of Omsk along the Irtysh River is about 40 km. Omsk attracts the attention of tourists by the variety of architectural, craft and cultural traditions, the beauty of Siberian nature. The hallmark of Omsk is a single architectural ensemble of the historic center of the city, formed by merchant buildings of the late XIX - early XX centuries.
The temples and cathedrals of Omsk occupy a special place among the sights of the city. Assumption Cathedral of Omsk is a unique historical and architectural monument, which is one of the largest churches in Russia. St. Nicholas Cossack Cathedral is considered the oldest temple in Omsk and is the only surviving temple during the Soviet era. Outside the city is located Achairsky Krestovy Convent in whose territory there is a holy source.
The configuration of the Omsk Region, stretched from north to south for several hundred kilometers, led to the existence of several natural zones at once in its territory. The climate of Omsk is continental with long frosty winters, hot summers and short transitional seasons (spring and autumn). Summer is characterized by warm or hot weather with lots of sunny days.

The Batakovo tract is a national natural and archaeological park on the left bank of the Irtysh River. It was established in 1995 and covers an area of 15 thousand hectares. There are many archaeological sites and finds here. "Batakovo" Park is interesting not only by the nature of the complex - there are many archaeological discoveries, monuments and finds here.
More than 150 objects of all eras of different cultures, from the Stone Age to the new time. Ancient sites, settlements, kurgan and soil burial grounds, fortresses form real ensembles. The remains of necropolises and cities with an age of more than 2000 years, some have been preserved to such an extent that one can discern the layout: streets, details of defense facilities.
Omsk was founded by Ivan Buchholz in 1716 by decree of Peter I as a military fortress on the southern border of the State and a stronghold for the further development of Siberia. The left bank of the Om River was chosen as the site for the construction of the fortress, from which the city got its name. In 1782, the Omsk fortress was transformed into the city of Omsk, which became the administrative center of Western Siberia. The impetus for the development of the city in the 19th century was the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway and the bridge across the Irtysh, thanks to which Omsk became a major transport and then industrial center.
"Bird Harbor" - a natural park in Omsk, in the area of the Left Bank. This is the only natural park in Russia, located within the city. In 1994, this natural monument received the status of a protected regional object. The reserve "Bird Harbor" is a territory in which there are several small lakes, the water into which falls from a closed channel - the Zamarayka river, and from underground springs. The park covers more than 100 hectares, 70 of which are water.
