Neva river, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Main Admiralty in St. Petersburg
Even the shortest trip around St. Petersburg is unlikely to take less than seven days
This time is enough only for a cursory inspection of the most famous places. If you want to visit each gallery of the Russian Museum and the Hermitage, go to such famous suburbs as Pushkino and Peterhof, then the journey can take a long time. The attention of tourists attracted numerous cathedrals of the city. Of course, there are many temples and churches in Russia. However, such magnificence is not found anywhere else.
The first Russian site included in the UNESCO World Heritage lists is the historical center of St. Petersburg and a group of architectural monuments associated with it. Among the most important protected places are the Neva River with embankments and bridges, the Bogoslovka estate, the palace and park ensemble of the city of Lomonosov, Peterhof, the Oreshek fortress, the Pulkovo Observatory and many others. St. Isaac's Cathedral is one of the dominants of St. Petersburg. This is the largest Orthodox church in the city. In the construction of the cathedral 43 mineral rocks were used, the interior was richly decorated with semiprecious stones. St. Isaac's Cathedral is truly majestic, its height is 101.5 meters, and the inner area is more than 4000 square meters.
St. Isaac's Cathedral of St. Petersburg is recognized as one of the most beautiful domed churches in the world. On the scale of construction St. Isaac's Cathedral is the fourth Christian church, second only to St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, the Church of St. Paul in London and the Church of St. Mary in Florence. St. Isaac's Cathedral is a magnificent architectural monument of Russian classicism, its exterior is decorated with granite and marble. The building outside is decorated with magnificent sculptures, in the amount of twenty-four pieces: angels, evangelists, apostles. The interiors of the cathedral are no less attractive and beautiful, visitors can see here the swatches of painting, sculpture, mosaic, colored stone facing. The main iconostasis of St. Isaac's Cathedral, decorated with columns of malachite and lapis lazuli, is particularly delightful.
The monasteries of St. Petersburg are the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Monastery, which houses the relics of the blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, St. Ioannovsky, which holds the relics of St. John of Kronstadt. Shrines: relics of Blessed Xenia of Petersburg in the chapel of Xenia of Petersburg in the Smolensk cemetery, the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow with Pennies" in the church in honor of this icon at Zelenetsky Compound, the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Znamenie" Academy.
The building of the Main Admiralty in St. Petersburg is one of the main attractions of the city
Its facades and spire have long been the hallmark of the city, they can be seen on a variety of photos, images and postcards with views of St. Petersburg. The very first shipyard was built in the city on the Neva in 1703, it was on the site of the modern Peter and Paul Fortress. During its use, it became clear that the resources of this shipyard are not enough for the needs of St. Petersburg, so Peter I ordered to design and build a new shipyard on the island located between two rivers - the Neva and Moika (which was formerly called Mya River).
At this time, the island became known as the Admiralty. So, on November 5, 1704, the first brick of a new fortress was laid in this place. We completed the construction of the building in about a year. Nevsky Prospect is the main street of St. Petersburg, stretching for 4.5 km from the Admiralty to the Alexander Nevsky Monastery. During a tour of Nevsky Prospect, each building of which is a work of art, you can see many of the sights of St. Petersburg.
Here are located: the Admiralty building, the Stroganov Palace, the Anichkov Palace, the house of the Zinger company, the legendary Eliseevsky shop, the monument to Catherine II, bridges across the city's numerous canals, and the Church of the Savior on Blood, based on the death of Emperor Alexander II.
St. Petersburg is the cultural capital of Russia, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which is impossible not to fall in love. The Hermitage, the Russian Museum, St. Isaac's and Kazan Cathedrals, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, the Peter and Paul Fortress, Nevsky Prospect and the Summer Garden are attractions that do not need a special presentation. But Petersburg is also a suburb: Tsarskoye Selo in Pushkin, Pavlovsk and, of course, brilliant Peterhof. Tourists from all over the world come here to see this extraordinary city of white nights, royal palaces and parks, fairy fountains and drawbridges.
