Suzdal church, Russia. Walk through Suzdal

In the past, Suzdal was the capital of the Rostov-Suzdal principality. After Andrei Bogolyubsky moved the administrative center to Vladimir, the city continued to defend its primacy. From the middle of the XIII century Suzdal Stanol the capital of an independent Suzdal principality. The city was attacked and plundered by the Volga Bulgars, the Polish-Lithuanian invaders, the Crimean Tatars, but, despite this, from the XVI century Suzdal stanol the spiritual pearl of Russia.

Suzdal is so unique in its history, rich in monuments and beautiful at any time of the year, that you can come and come to it for years and it will open with its new facets. Therefore, sometimes it is possible to just wander around without a plan, along the old streets and ancient ramparts, visiting monasteries and looking at merchant churches, admiring carved platbands and dignified local cats, turning into alleys and leaving unobtrusive paths to river precipices.

At the beginning of the XVIII century in the parish of the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God there were 59 yards and 389 souls, and the proceeds from the leasing of church lands, sales of candles and other sources were 650 rubles per year (a considerable amount at that time). At the end of the 18th century, a bell tower in the style of provincial classicism was built between winter and summer temples, thus completing this magnificent architectural complex.

During the construction of the Smolensk church, the five-domes had already gone out of fashion, but in this case it looks quite appropriate, visually facilitating the massive, cubic quadrangle of the main building. Thin graceful drums are carved and topped with steel-gray onion heads. An altar apse has been built from the east. The planes of the facades are separated from the four-slope roof by a cornice of small kokoshnik, posts and cloves.

The windows are high, their platbands are decorated with "beads" on curly pilasters. Suzdal Kremlin is the oldest part of the city, leading its history since the X century. The main thing that the Suzdal Kremlin is famous for is its religious sights: the Nativity Cathedral, the Nikolskaya Church and the Bishops' Chambers.

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin is preserved on its territory - the most ancient temple of Suzdal, built by a "stone building" at the beginning of the XIII century. But since the temple was built of limestone, the upper part of the building was not preserved. It was restored three centuries later from a brick. But the entire lower part of the building with embossed images and ornaments has survived to this day without changes since the 13th century.

Nikolskaya Church, also preserved in the territory of the Suzdal Kremlin, was transported from the Yuryev-Polsky district. A simple but well-built wooden cloister adorns the Kremlin on a par with the Nativity Cathedral and the Bishops' Chambers. The latter, by the way, are stone (household and residential) buildings, intended for servants of temples, including the bishop himself. In the Bishops' Chambers do not forget to look into the Cross Hall, which important ceremonial receptions were held many centuries ago.
