It is worth noting that these crafts are traditional for the local population, because the taiga forests of this region and numerous lakes created all the conditions for the development of such crafts.

Each year, more than 5,000 thousand licenses for hunting for squirrel, elk, bear, about 700 for fur-bearing animals are issued. They also issue licenses for hunting wolves, wild boars, wolverines and other wild animals that live in the Vologda forests. There are about four thousand lakes in the region. The main ones are Ladoga, Kubenskoe, Onega, White, Rybinsk and Sheksna reservoirs and others. There are also several large rivers here, such as Vologda, Sukhona, the South, which are included in the Volga-Baltic and North Dvina systems.
