Upper Yangtze River
The long and high-flowing river of China, running through the territory of two continents (Europe and Asia) and occupying the third place in the world in terms of length and fullness, the Yangtze originates in the mountains of Tibet. The Yangtze River, which flows through the center of China, is the third longest river in the world. It originates in the central part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and flows through the eastern regions of Qinghai Province, and then turns to the south and reaches Yunnan Province. Here, approximately 44 kilometers from Lijiang, the river changes direction, forming a V-shaped bend and, crossing several provinces from west to east, flows into the East China Sea at the end of its path.
In place of the turn of the river, between the mountains Yulun and Hub, formed the famous gorge Tiger Leaping (Tiger Leaping Gorge). This gorge, 16 kilometers long, is very deep and difficult to reach - at the narrowest point the width of the gorge does not even reach 25 meters at a depth of 3 kilometers.
This unusual 90-degree turn about a kilometer in length, called the "first bend of the Yangtze River", creates magnificent, breathtaking landscapes. The river is wide in this place, and its waters are very slow. Magnificent huge willows grow near the river, both banks of the Yangtze are covered with dense bushes and are surrounded by high mountains that seem to be reaching the sky.
In most European countries, breakfast is treated as something light: usually a cup of coffee with a croissant or a glass of freshly squeezed juice. In China, breakfast is a solid meal. The Chinese eat rice broth, noodles or dumplings stuffed with minced meat or vegetables. All these dishes are well seasoned with spices that help the body keep warm. They like to have breakfast with rice porridge, spring rolls and hot soy milk.
On the mountain at the bend of the river is the city of Stone Drum (Shiguzhen)
This ancient city, built during the Ming Dynasty, is named after the marble drum-shaped memorial, which marks the victory of Naxi over the Tibetan army. A stone drum with a diameter of 1.5 meters and half a meter in thickness has visible damage, as if it had once been broken. It is believed that it will break if suddenly a war begins and once again becomes one, when peace comes.
The area of the first bend of the Yangtze River is rich in interesting sights and beautiful landscapes. You will be able to walk along the roads that Kublai Khan passed with more than 800 years ago with his formidable army, take a boat ride on one of the longest rivers in the world, visit the local Naxi town and buy souvenirs.
For a long time, the city of Stone Drum was an important military-strategic area, where many famous historical events took place. It was here that Zhuge Liang (Zhuge Liang), a renowned military strategist of the Three Kingdoms period, crossed the Yangtze River, winning an advantage from opponents. The first emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan, used this place for his expeditionary forces to cross the river. In April 1936, the Second Company of the Red Army, led by generals He Long and Ren Bishi, going north, also crossed Lijiang in this very place. The city has memorials to those whose names are connected with its history.
The Yangtze (Changjiang) is the longest river in Eurasia and the third in the world in length. It flows 6,418 kilometers, originating in the Tibetan Plateau in the province of Qinghai, flowing through southwestern, central and eastern China and flowing into the East China Sea from Shanghai. The Yangtze River basin accounts for one-fifth of China's area, with a third of the PRC's population living here. Along with the Yellow River, the Yangtze is the most important river in China's history, culture and economy. The Yangtze Delta region forms 20% of China's GDP. The Yangtze River flows through a wide range of ecosystems and is a habitat for many animals and plants. For millennia, people used the river for water intake, irrigation, sewage, transport, industry, demarcation of borders and wars. The Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric power station in the world, is located on the Yangtze River.
Chinese cuisine is one of the oldest on the planet. The idea that everything that crawls and moves on the Chinese table is only partially true. To understand the culture and lifestyle of the people of China, you need to understand what the Chinese eat every day. The ingredients from which Chinese dishes are prepared often seem strange to other nations. In China, there is a proverb: seven things of everyday life - firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea. Rice is the gastronomic sign of China. From it is the preparation of a side dish, vinegar and alcoholic beverages. The following popular dishes are included in the Chinese diet: cakes made from rice flour; boiled rice as a side dish; fried rice with duck; fried noodles; various options for dumplings (with meat, vegetable or mushroom filling); soybeans, from which soy milk, sauce and cottage cheese are made. The Chinese menu also includes a variety of vegetables: bitter melon, broccoli, carrots, etc.
The most common options for what the Chinese prefer to eat during lunch: sweet and sour pork; Peking duck; milk tofu, with the addition of beef and green onions; dumplings; pancakes with various fillings; the famous Chinese dish Wonton (dumplings in the form of triangles, which are usually boiled and served in soup); Chinese salad (a warm dish consisting of Chinese noodles, chicken or other meat, celery and onions). It is customary for the Chinese to sleep after a meal, so 2-3 meals are served for lunch. To save lunch time, most Chinese eat at restaurants or cafes, and some order food delivery or take containers with lunch with them.
