And it seems logical to devote time and some means to this problem. Unfortunately, the activity of volcanoes does not depend on humans, we can neither prevent nor stop the eruptions. It is only in our power to reduce damage if we learn to predict, predict such catastrophic eruptions and can somehow prepare. What exactly can be done in this direction is not yet clear, but if we formulate this as a global problem and attract the attention of a community of scientists, constructive proposals will also appear.

It is alarming that the last inversion happened about 800 thousand years ago. The deadline is approaching, but when it comes - after 30, 300 or 300 thousand years - no one knows. The poles, especially the North, do not stand still today, and at times their running is significantly accelerated. Fortunately, for a short period. But the fluctuations will occur more often, and when the pole crosses the 60th parallel, it will not return back. The process of "swinging" and inversion can take up to a thousand years, and all this time, humanity will have to tight. True, the duration of the transition period is set very approximately, because no one has dealt with this problem in detail. Despite the fact that the magnetic field has been studied for more than 300 years, not a single plausible hypothesis has yet been proposed, why, and, most importantly, how the inversion occurs.
Although these events themselves are "recorded" in volcanic lavas, where we observe a change in polarity and can approximately estimate the period, of the order of 1 thousand years, during which it occurs. Unlike volcanoes, the task here is more clear: you need to organize enhanced monitoring of the magnetic field, first of all, fluctuations in the position of the magnetic poles themselves. It is known that during each inversion, the North Pole, for example, "ran" in the same way: through our Chukotka and Kamchatka to Japan and further, through Australia, to the present South Pole. Now detailed monitoring of the magnetic pole is carried out only by the corresponding service in Canada, but this is clearly not enough - it requires the combined efforts of international scientific organizations, including Russian ones. In addition, to conduct research and calculations of how the weakening of the magnetic field and its chaotic variations during inversion (about 1 thousand years) will affect the operation of electric generators, electrical appliances, communications, television, etc.
